When is demolition really needed?
Let’s be honest: sometimes demolition is unavoidable. If the pipes are outdated, you have moisture problems or the whole layout needs to be changed, then it is not smart to simply build over it. You then risk problems coming up later. Also, if the old tiles are loose or the surface is no longer level, you often cannot avoid removing things. And that is actually a good thing. You then start with a fresh, solid base. So sometimes demolition is not the problem, but the solution.
What can you renovate without demolition?
Luckily, there are also plenty of ways to give your bathroom a major upgrade without breaking work. If the base is still good, you can do surprisingly much:
-
New wall panels or tile over tiles
Special wall panels can be placed directly over existing tiles. They are waterproof, easy to clean and available in many different styles. There are also thin tiles that can be placed over the old ones.
-
Replacing sanitary ware and furniture
As long as you use the existing connection points, you can easily have a new toilet, sink or bath installed. A modern shower wall or a sleek bathroom cabinet can also make a big difference to the look. This also means relatively little demolition work is needed.
-
Accessories and lighting
New mirrors with built in lighting, smart dimmers or a heated mirror: small details that make a big impact.
-
Floor over floor
Sometimes it is possible to lay a new floor over the existing one, for example with PVC or microcement. Of course, this is only possible if the surface is suitable.
The benefits of a light renovation
Completely stripping a bathroom is not always needed. If the base is good, you can already achieve a lot with a light renovation. The big advantage? It is faster, causes much less disruption and saves you a lot of costs. You also do not have dust in your home for weeks.
A new bathroom, without hassle?
Not every bathroom renovation has to start with a sledgehammer. Sometimes it is enough to look carefully at the condition of your bathroom and know what is technically possible. You can achieve a lot with fewer changes. Do you want to know whether your bathroom is suitable for a renovation without breaking work? We are happy to think along with you.
