Take a critical look at the layout
Does your bathroom feel cramped or impractical? There is a good chance it is not the size of the space, but the layout. Sometimes a toilet is just in the way, or the shower is in the least practical place. A small change can already create much more freedom of movement. Combine functions where possible. A niche in the wall can also be used as storage space, and a vanity unit with drawers saves you from needing an extra cabinet.
Choose furniture that fits the space
A bathroom does not have to be full to feel complete. Less is often better. It is better to choose one well fitting piece of furniture than three separate cabinets that make the space feel crowded. Floating furniture creates an airy effect and makes cleaning easier. Narrow sinks save space without losing ease of use. And if you want smart storage, think upwards: a tall cabinet next to the sink or a mirror cabinet above the basin can work wonders.
Smart storage for peace of mind
Nothing makes a bathroom feel smaller than loose items lying around. Razors on the edge, bottles on the floor and towels everywhere. It creates clutter in the room and in your mind. Smart storage does not have to be complicated at all. A drawer unit under the sink or a niche in the shower wall where all your bottles fit perfectly can make an immediate difference. Baskets, hooks or a subtle cabinet above the toilet also help keep everything tidy.
Light makes the difference
Light has more impact than you might think. A well lit bathroom looks bigger, fresher and more pleasant to use. Do you have a window? Then let the natural light do as much work as possible. No window? No problem. With the right lighting, you can still create a spacious effect. Combine bright, functional light at the mirror with warm mood lighting for relaxing moments. Choose dimmable spotlights, wall lights or a mirror with built in lighting. And do not forget the mirror itself: a large mirror reflects light and makes the whole space look bigger.
Choose light colours and large surfaces
Dark colours and busy patterns can make a space look smaller than it is. Light tones do the opposite: they create calm, reflect light and make your bathroom look bigger. For example, choose white, sand, soft grey or pastel colours, and add contrast in details such as taps or accessories. A glass shower wall instead of a closed shower cabin also keeps the space open and airy.
Make room for comfort
Space is not only about square metres, but also about how it feels. And that feeling is often in the small details. For example, a warm floor when you step into the bathroom barefoot in the morning. A rain shower that gives just that little bit of extra relaxation. Or a ventilation system that keeps the air fresh without foggy mirrors. Even in a smaller bathroom, you can make changes that increase comfort. Think of a heated mirror, soft close drawers or a smart thermostatic tap. These may not be things you notice at first glance, but you feel them every day. And that is how you get the most out of your bathroom.
Get advice
Sometimes you have looked at your bathroom for so long that you no longer see the possibilities. A fresh outside view is exactly what you need. An advisor looks at it differently. They see where space can be gained and think of solutions you may not have considered yourself. Curious? Get in touch.
